Module Overview

georest is organized by provider. Each provider is a subpackage with its own transport code, so providers can be added side by side without stepping on each other.

Esri and ArcGIS (georest.esri)

georest.restesri.services

Generic queries against any ArcGIS Image, Map or Feature Service: tile URL templates, features as GeoJSON, and Image Service raster operations, including exportImage, computeStatisticsHistograms, identifyPixelValue, getSamples and queryBoundary.

georest.restesri.portal

Search ArcGIS Online, IIPP, USGS, NOAA, USFS, NASA or any ArcGIS Enterprise portal with searchPortal(), and read a service’s metadata with getServiceMetadata().

georest.restesri.edw

The USDA Forest Service Enterprise Data Warehouse: catalog search by keyword or theme (search_edw_services()), layer roles, FGDC and ISO metadata, and feature and analytic queries (query_features()).

georest.restesri.auth

Sign in to ArcGIS Online or a Portal, by browser (OAuth 2.0 with PKCE) or with a token from the arcgis package. See Authentication.

USGS (georest.usgs)

georest.usgs.waterdata

The USGS Water Data OGC API: monitoring locations, daily and continuous values, field measurements, peaks and time-series metadata. to_rows() flattens a result into plain rows.

USDA Forest Service (georest.usfs)

Five modules, used the same way as the Esri and USGS ones: import the module and call through it, from georest.usfs import fia then fia.estimate(...). Tabular results are pandas DataFrames.

georest.usfs.fia

Forest Inventory and Analysis estimates from FIADB-API, the service behind EVALIDator. estimate() returns se_pct and plots on every cell and flags cells too thin to report, because FIA is a probability sample and an estimate without its sampling error is not a fact. Pass several evaluations to estimate across them in one request, the only way to get a correct combined standard error. Bad requests are caught locally first: an attribute that needs growth accounting, or a grouping label FIADB-API would silently ignore. To find what to estimate, search the 752 attributes, 1,143 evaluations and 96 groupings offline with fia.find_attributes, fia.find_evaluations and fia.find_groupings.

georest.usfs.vocab

The FIA catalogs behind fia’s searches. A snapshot ships with the package; refreshed copies are cached in ~/.georest/usfs (cache_dir()) and can be refreshed on demand with refresh_all().

georest.usfs.lcms

Landscape Change Monitoring System land cover, land use and change for the API’s precomputed areas: counties, ranger districts and national rollups (lcms_summary()). Class tables and map palettes come from the API, so they match the release.

georest.usfs.lcms_ee

LCMS as Earth Engine image collections, which is how lcms_summary() handles your own polygon. Optional: pip install "georest[ee]".

georest.usfs.align

LCMS treed area beside FIA forest-land area (compare_area()). The two measure different things, a classified map and a probability sample, so the result keeps them apart and carries the reasons they differ.
